History :: How did it happen?

From time to time, I find that the curiosity level of some folks is raised sufficiently to ask, "Brother Homoki, how did you get into this ministry? We have attended your Crossroads Crusades and also know something of the growth of your Truth Aflame and other publications; how did it all happen?"

There is no short or simple answer that will adequately tell the whole story. But, as far as I am concerned, this wonderful ministry, which I am so privileged of God to enjoy, began when I got saved.

I was saved as a teenager, largely the result of the grace of God being at work in our family. My father, who had been in show business all of his life, was wonderfully and gloriously saved by the amazing grace of God! (His life story, "From Sunup to Sundown ," is one of our popular publications.) If I had no other reason to believe in the existence of God and His wonderful grace, I would believe in the grace of God because of the change I had seen in my father's life.

As a teenager, I started to study my Bible. It was not long before I realized that God had not only saved me but had called me to be a preacher. I have never doubted my salvation nor have I ever doubted my call into the ministry.

After graduation from high school, I prepared for the ministry by attending Arizona Bible Institute in Phoenix. It was while I was attending ABI that I met my wife, Darlene. After graduation, we were married and immediately set about pursuing the gospel ministry. For a while we served as Directors of Truth for Youth (an evangelistic youth ministry) on the Navajo Indian Reservation. From there we moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where we labored for a year as the Associate Pastor and Youth Ministers for the Phoenix Baptist Temple. We served for another ensuing year as Associate Pastor and Youth Ministers for the Pomona Valley Baptist Church and Christian Schools in Pomona, California. It was while we were in California that God opened the door, and we accepted a call to the pastorate of the Twin Peaks Community Church of Twin Peaks, California. After six wonderful years of ministry there, having seen many, many people saved and the church prosper numerically and spiritually, we were called to the pastorate of the Gospel Lighthouse Church of Tipp City, Ohio.

It was while we were in our tenth year of pastoring at the Gospel Lighthouse Church that we came to see the Word of God "rightly divided." We both recognized immediately the great value of understanding and defending what the Apostle Paul declared was a "precious deposit" (I Tim. 1:12-14). We realized that this truth of the "mystery," which had been entrusted to us, could not be compromised. We then pursued a course of action that would attempt to "make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery" (Eph. 3:1-9).

It was at this time that the Lord laid a heavy burden upon my heart to put some of these "Grace Truths" into print. I began to teach the whole Bible through what I called, "Pauline spectacles." Our writing and preaching ministry was greatly prospered of the Lord, but not without great controversy. It was hard for many to break loose from the traditional non-dispensational teachings of the past. The controversy led to my resignation as Pastor of the Gospel Lighthouse Church.

Because of the widespread circulation of our literature, we immediately had several invitations to pastor a "Grace Church." It became my joyful lot to move my wife and family to Evansville, Indiana, where we were privileged to serve as the pastor, for almost five years, at the Berean Bible Church. As we grew in the "Grace Message" and our writing increased, we found that there was a greater demand for Bible-teaching literature than we had ever dreamed existed; and with the increased circulation of the literature, there was an increase in invitations to minister in evangelistic and Bible conference meetings throughout many parts of the United States.

At this point in time, Bible Doctrines to Live By, Inc., was born February 18, 1981, and on April 15, 1981, was officially recognized by the Government as a non-profit, independent, missionary enterprise, and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. This ministry now operates under the prayerful guidance of its Director and Board of Directors.

This ministry has two major divisions. Our right hand is the evangelism department and the left hand is the publication department.

We call the evangelistic ministry "Crossroads Crusades." This itinerant ministry has taken us over thousands of miles and into the hearts and lives of many hundreds of people and into over a thousand churches. We are happy to report that each year we have seen an increase in the size of the "Crossroads Crusades" attendance and in the number of people saved. It is a special joy to know that many of these new converts are successfully brought to an understanding of what we call the "Grace Message," and have joined Bible-believing, fundamental churches where they are growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We call the literature ministry "Bible Doctrines Publications." This is a far-reaching and very fruitful ministry. Thus far, we have published a large number of Bible study tracts, pamphlets, booklets, books, and our bimonthly Truth Aflame magazine. Each year we circulate thousands of pieces of literature to all parts of the United States and to many foreign lands. Several of our publications have also been published and circulated in several different foreign languages. Truth Aflame has a regular circulation of 4,500.

In October of 1995, we moved our ministry into the attractive and spacious new building that we call our Evangelism and Publications Center. Here, God has graciously provided for our continued growth and outreach. If you were to read the testimonials that we receive in just one week, you would never doubt the power of the printed page nor would you ever doubt the fruitfulness of our efforts to use crusade evangelism for Christ. I believe you would be absolutely amazed at what God has done, especially when you realize that we do not beg people for money, nor do we use the many STUDIES gimmicks that others freely use. We give Him the praise and glory.

How did it happen? By God's grace!
