Dolly’s Diary

Ministry Up-Date

December 2007

Well, the much anticipated Christmas season and New Year’s has come and gone and we are already well into the year 2008. We did have a great Christmas with our four granddaughters. We had our Christmas on Christmas Eve. It started with the Candlelight Christmas Service at Rush Creek Bible Church. That was a refreshing hour of blessing. Then we went on back to our home for dinner and And then, Christmas Day we were invited to go to our good friends Dave and Mary Plaggemars, and have dinner with them. We enjoyed that very much too.

Thursday morning found us “on the road again” on our way to Springfield, Ohio and the Grace Bible Church where Lee had been asked to fill the pulpit for two Sundays and do the mid-week service also. We were at this church last summer for their VBS. We arrived there Friday afternoon,  parked the motor home on the parking lot, “plugged in” and were ready for the week.

Services went well on Sunday. It was good to renew fellowship with the folks at Grace Bible church. We were warmly received and felt right at home. The good fellowship continued as several people from the church went out to lunch.

We spent a quiet New Years in the motor home. We called it a “day” long before the ball dropped at midnight. Lee spent his time studying and “fighting” computer problems. Thanks to Terry Fisher he was able to get some work done. The screen on his computer was fast fading and Brother Fisher brought him over a monitor so that he could have it to get his work done. We praise the Lord for good help on the way. This is the same Mr. Fisher that fixed my computer last summer when it “crashed.” If these computers don’t turn on and work right, we don’t know what to do and are at a loss since all our work is on them. They are wonderful tools but very frustrating.

There was a good group of people out for the Wednesday evening service in spite of the cold and snow. Yes, we had several inches of snow on New Years Day. But, we had a good service and enjoyed a “pizza” pot-luck before the service. It is always a joy to spend time in fellowship and time in the Word of God sharing the blessings of what the Lord has done and is doing for us.

On Friday night we spent a wonderful evening at the home of Ron and Joyce Gannon. They had us over for dinner and then we spent the evening playing Dominos with the Gannons and Mike and Marvis Elfors. It was relaxing and we enjoyed Bible discussions as we played Dominos.

Then Sunday morning we again had a good service and good fellowship after the service we went with Roger and Susan Neff for lunch. We meet and make such good friends as we travel and we praise the Lord for wonderful fellowship in the Gospel.

Sunday afternoon we drove to the Community Bible Church in Tipp City. This is like coming home because Lee pastured this church for 9 years. We had just pulled in and  parked when Paula English drove up. She came in and visited a few minutes giving us the sad news that her husband and our dear friend, Ron, was in the Nursing Home recovering from a strangulated bowel and heart attack. Shortly, Pastor Jeff Seekins arrived and greeted us. Then it was time to go over to the church for the Evening Service. Lee brought a brief challenge from the Word and the rest of the evening we spent in giving a ministry up-date of Bible Doctrines. It was a great evening and we enjoyed seeing the people at Tipp City again. There were some new faces and we enjoyed meeting them. After the service we went to the Nursing Home and spent the rest of the evening visiting with Ron English. Then, we moved the motor home from the church parking lot to Ron and Paula’s English’s home.

After breakfast with Paula and John and Norma Potter we were on our way to Victory Bible Church and Stables in Apollo, Pennsylvania. We arrived there Tuesday afternoon. In the evening we met with their staff and showed pictures of Cowboy Camp in Apollo as well as Missouri and South Dakota and discussed the proposed trail Ride in May. The enthusiasm was high and plans are underway for the Cowboy Camp in Apollo again this summer.

We left Apollo on Wednesday morning and drove south to Hagerstown, Maryland where we spent the next few days with the Rotz family at Antietam Recreation Park, Antietam, Maryland. We had a two-fold purpose in coming here. Number one was to have fellowship with the Rotz family and secondly was to invite Andy to come to our Cowboy Reunion in February to work with the young people on their rope spinning skills. We did have a wonderful time visiting with these dear folks and sharing what the Lord is doing at Bible Doctrines. However, our second purpose did not materialize as Andy does not feel he could be of help by coming to the Reunion. Needless to say, we were greatly disappointed but the Lord knows and will work things out.

Saturday, we left Antietam and drove to Ridgeley, West Virginia and to the Grace Bible Fellowship church where Pastor Brent and Saundra Biller labor to serve the Lord. We were greeted by the Billers and made arrangements to have them come by later in the evening and go out to dinner with them. This we did and had a good time of fellowship and getting caught up on the ministry in Ridgeley.

The church was full for Sunday School and Morning Service. Lee spoke at both sessions. We had a great time in the Word of God and fellowship with these dear folks. After a time of fellowship and dinner with some of the folks  we loaded up and drove to Bedford, Pennsylvania where we were scheduled to be at Bedford Valley Bible Church with Pastor John and Gloria Hollis. We have been here several times and again it was wonderful to renew fellowship and visit with the folks at Bedford. After the service, we went out to dinner with Pastor John and Gloria.Hollis. We enjoyed our time with the Hollis’s and the folks from Bedford Valley Bible Church very much.

Monday morning we left Bedford and stated west and south to Alpha, Kentucky. We took our time, enjoying the ride and arrived in Alpha on Wednesday. We pulled into the parking lot of Old Bethel Bible Church just shortly before people began arriving for the Evening Service. These are dear people and we enjoy their friendship and fellowship everytime we come here. We had a good service. On Thursday we met with Jeff Bertram regarding the possibility of having a Cowboy Camp in Alpha. Jeff has some property and horses and had suggested earlier the possibility that he would like to host a Cowboy Camp.We drove out to the farm he was suggesting and it certainly has a lot of possibilities. There were two old barns and an old log house on the property as well as some other smaller buildings. We walked through the house and barns and could readily imagine it all being cleared out and a cowboy camp set up there. So, now we await Jeff’s decision as to whether he thinks it is a possibility for 2008 or 2009. It is exciting to find young men willing to host a cowboy camp because of their desire to win young people to the Lord and see them grow spiritually.

We remained parked at Old Bethel until Saturday morning when we had to leave for Evansville, Indiana.

Friday evening Bob and Faye Bertram, Jeff’s parents, came by, picked us up and took us out to dinner. Again, we spent considerable time discussing the possibilities of having a Cowboy Camp in Alpha. Alpha is located near Monticello, Kentucky. We look forward to hearing from Jeff.and the possibility of a fourth Cowboy Camp this summer.

After breakfast at Bob and Faye’s on Saturday morning, we headed north to Evansville, Indiana where Cowboy Lee was scheduled to “ride” at the Triple T Ministries in Evansville. This is like the old Youth for Christ – they still have the Saturday night youth rallies. On the way, we called Diana Walters and she made arrangements for us to park at the 4-H center camp ground. So we pulled in there and were right at home in a few minutues. Several people have asked us if we stay warm in the motor home as the temperature was in the single digits. Yes, it is much easier to keep the motor home warm in the winter than it is cool in the summer. We are very comfortable.

We enjoyed the evening at Triple T. they had a good number of young people there. The director, George Dooms, was not present as he had to be out of town for a funeral. But, the meeting went well and we enjoyed meeting and being with the young people and watching them have a good time.

Sunday morning, Diana Walters came and picked us up in time for Sunday School and Church at the Grace Fellowship Chapel. We have known these folks since we lived here in Evansville and Lee pastored the Berean Bible Church. So it was good to see them and visit with them as well as share in ministry with them. Lee taught the Sunday School lesson and then brought the morning message for the Morning Worship. After lunch served at the church we came back to the motor home for a couple hours before going back for the Evening Service.

We are going to stay parked here until Wednesday when we move on to Linton, Indiana before heading home. Lee is busy working on the next issue of Truth Aflame so we keep busy. There is always something to do and like Lee says it seems like we do everything but fight the “Indians”. Whenever we sit down to work on ministry, the computers seem to slow down and quit working. Then, when we need to send e-mail, the signal is too small to accomplish anything. BUT, the Lord knows and we keep plodding along. The Lord knows and understands our frustrations.

As we were leaving Evansville we met with George and Mary Dooms of Triple T Ministries and their daughter, Tami for lunch. Tami is an excellent attorney and so we took the opportunity to discuss some of the legal and insurance questions we had concerning Cowboy Camps. She has agreed to help us in this area. Tami became an attorney so that she could help ministries like ours.

We arrived in Linton in time for the Wednesday evening service. Again, it was a joy to renew fellowship. It had been several years since we were in Linton. There was a good crowd out for a Wednesday night and the fellowship was wonderful. We left right after the service making our way home.

It is good to be back in wintery Grand Rapids and at the office. Joel McGarvey is now at the helm and things seem to be running well. We do ask your continued prayers for the ministry of Bible Doctrines. The finances continue to be a burden as the cost of doing business is on the rise but our God is able. Please pray with us about this.

May the Lord bless you all.

Winning, working and waiting
